The Morning After

I have to say I am very impressed by President Obama’s inaugural speech – it seemed amazingly honest. He didn’t flinch from the fact that the good old US of A is in a bit of a sorry state at the moment, floundering on an ocean of self-induced debt, nor did he hide the fact that it will be a difficult task to get it back on its feet. He spoke of optimism tempered by the fact that success is not a given but the result of hard work and heartache. He made his stand clear on the defence of the nation, the debt of gratitude to patriots past and present whilst, at the same time, offering the hand of friendship to all those, friend or foe, who would accept it.

Unfortunately, for a man of such vision, he seems to choose somewhat curious figures for his Cabinet. Hillary Clinton’s appointment as Secretary of State has had to be postponed as a Republican Senator is querying foreign donations to a foundation headed by husband and former President Bill Clinton, and his choice as Treasury Secretary, Timothy Geithner, is up before the Senate Finance Committee on wednesday regarding his initial failure to pay taxes on income earned whilst working for the IMF (International Monetary Fund)!

God Bless America!
