Latest unemployment figures released show that there are now 2.47million unemployed people in Britain, up 23,000 from the last quarter.
Some experts predict that this figure will continue to rise, with some estimating a further 500,000 people joining the queue over the next two years.
More working age Brits than ever before are being forced to work part-time in a desperate move which cripples their financial capability, official figures revealed today.
Experts claim that the recession has sparked a new phenomenon and have labelled it as ‘part-time Britain’ – with the warning that the situation will get even worse as the coalition Government prepares to wield the axe on many public sector jobs.
Almost one in eight public sector jobs are set to be cut as the Government struggles to control Britain’s financial crisis.
The ‘hidden unemployed’ group who are economically inactive dramatically increased by 29,000 from February to April and now includes a record 8.19m Britons.
More than 468,000 people have stopped working full-time, yet figures from the Office of National Statistics reveal that the number of people now classed as having part-time employment status is up by 255,000.
This means that in total 7.8m people in Britain are working part-time, the highest level since records began over 25 years ago.
