Hollywood actor Rachel Bilson and Star Wars star Hayden Christensen have reportedly called off their engagement after a three year relationship.

Former OC star Bilson, 28, and Star Wars actor Christensen, 29, met back in 2007 when they co-starred in the film Jumper together. They got engaged in December 2008 and have since been spotted looking blissfully happy and deeply in love.

However, rumours that the couple had broken up started back in June 2010, when Bilson, who is reportedly embarking on a Hollywood movie career, was photographed at a high-profile celebrity event without her engagement ring. When asked about her upcoming wedding, Bilson allegedly said that she had no plans and pointed to her bare ring finger.

It has now emerged that the engagement, and indeed the relationship, between Bilson and Christensen is officially off. A spokesperson for Bilson, who previously dated her OC co-star Adam Brody for three years, broke the news to People magazine, saying: “Yes, the engagement is off.”

But why did they split? Sources close to the couple blame work commitments and distance for the breakdown of their relationship, as Bilson is based in Los Angeles whilst Christensen resides in his home nation of Canada. This apparently led to the couple living ‘separate lives’.

Other reports suggest that Bilson wants to focus on her career rather than settle down; she is soon to star in new romance film Waiting for Forever, to be released at the end of 2010.
