After months of speculation, Lily Allen has finally announced that she’s pregnant with her first child by boyfriend Sam Cooper.
For many Lily Allen fans, the pregnancy news won’t come as much of a surprise. The rumours that the singer was expecting have been flying around for months now, heightened by Allen’s highly-publicised cancellations of gigs and festival appearances.
Speculation reached fever pitch when Allen cancelled her performance at June’s Benicassim International Festival in Spain, citing doctor’s orders as the reason she could not travel.
Allen, 25 has now announced her happy news, giving it the standard three months before confirming her pregnancy to the world. She has posted a picture of herself on social networking website Twitter, where she is holding the Sun newspaper – bearing the headline “Lily: I’m preggers” – and beaming. The couple are both said to be delighted after going for their three-month scan.
Allen has been seeing Cooper, 32, since July 2009, although the pair have reportedly been friends for years. In an interview, she recently said of him:
“Sam treats me differently. He’s told me he’ll look after me forever. That’s what I’ve always wanted – someone to look after me.
“We’ve never had one argument and there’s absolutely nothing about him that annoys me.”
In the past, Allen has often spoken about quitting music and starting a family. She was pregnant once before, by then-boyfriend Chemical Brothers’ Ed Simmons in 2007, but she sadly suffered a miscarriage.
