Lee Ryan, the former member of boy band Blue, has been accused of assaulting his fiancée and the mother of his young child, Samantha Millar, this week.
The alleged incident is said to have happened last Wednesday 18th August, when the couple were in a car driving through London’s West End. Police have now confirmed that Ryan was arrested, saying:
“Lee Ryan, self-employed, of Henley-on-Thames, is due to appear on bail charged with common assault.”
He is expected to appear in front of the City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday 27th August. Ryan, 27, denies the allegations made against him. A spokesperson for the singer has said:
“Lee 100% denies common assault.”
“He will be fighting these charges in court”.
This incident isn’t Ryan’s first brush with the law; he was arrested and charged for drink driving back in 2003 and accused of assault on a Surrey taxi driver on New Year’s Eve 2007.
Ryan and Millar, 26, have been together for a number of years after reportedly first meeting on MySpace. Millar gave birth to their first child, Rayn, in November 2008 and the couple announced their engagement shortly after.
As well as embarking on a solo career, Ryan recently reformed Blue – whose hit singles include Too Close, One Love, and If You Come Back – with his former bandmates Antony Costa, Duncan James and Simon Webbe. According to Ryan’s Twitter page, he is currently writing new material for Blue’s latest album.
